Mobile salon vans for Surrey and White Rock

ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans for hair, nails and lashes in Langley, which shares its western border with Surrey. A stylist in Cloverdale or Fleetwood can reach the shop after a short drive to settle a layout, and Surrey's mix of townhouse complexes, large subdivisions and rural acreages gives a salon van plenty of places to work.

A hair salon van with its own shampoo bowl and dryer power can work a townhouse complex in Newton in the morning and a wedding in South Surrey in the afternoon.

What do Surrey winters mean for a salon van?

Surrey is large enough for the weather to change from one end to the other. South Surrey and White Rock face Semiahmoo Bay and tend to stay a little milder, with rain, while the higher ground around Cloverdale and Panorama Ridge is more likely to see snow when cold air pushes down the Fraser Valley.

A ProVanWorks salon van gets about 16 mm (5/8 inch) of insulation in the walls, roof and floor, the thickness we use for Lower Mainland vans, and heat from a small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat. Pipes in the floor and walls and heat exchangers spread the heat, and the thermostat holds the room where you set it, engine running or off. For a colour client who sits for two hours, or a pedicure client with bare feet, the warm floor is what keeps the appointment comfortable. In summer the front fan runs the air conditioning, which you'll want with two dryers going on a hot afternoon near the bay.

Where do mobile salons work in Surrey?

Surrey is one of the largest cities in BC, and much of it is family housing a fair drive from the nearest salon. Newton, Fleetwood and Clayton have rows of townhouse complexes where a parent with small children would rather walk out to a van than load everyone into the car. Guildford and City Centre have growing towers near SkyTrain. Cloverdale and the rural edge of South Surrey still have acreages with room to park, and halls, farms and banquet venues across the city host weddings and family events where a hair and makeup van can work all morning.

Seniors' residences are another regular stop for residents who no longer drive.

Before you plan regular visits to a complex, ask the strata council whether commercial vehicles may park on its roads. Check with the City of Surrey, or the City of White Rock for stops there, about street parking and running a business from a vehicle.

What water and power setup suits a Surrey salon van?

Surrey routes cover a lot of ground, so plan water for a full day of washes. A ProVanWorks hair van has a shampoo bowl fed with hot water, and can add a pedicure basin and a hand-wash sink. The fresh water reservoir in the utility area and the grey water tank under the floor are sized for your appointments, and the grey tank is the same size as or larger than the reservoir. Grey water goes to an approved disposal point or the sanitary sewer, never a storm drain.

Hair dryers and hot tools draw the most power in any salon, so a Surrey hair van is built with high-amp inverters and chargers (an add-on) and a battery bank sized for the dryers you run. The batteries charge at Level 2 EV chargers through a J1772 inlet, which makes a midday stop at a public charger in Guildford or Newton useful. Shore power comes in through the 50 A inlet (30 A also available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet. Solar panels and a generator are add-ons; a generator earns its keep at an all-day outdoor wedding on an acreage. The mobile hair salon van page explains the hair layout.

What rules apply to a mobile salon in Surrey?

Surrey and White Rock are in the Fraser Health region. Check with Fraser Health about personal service rules for hair, nails and lashes before you book clients, and with the City of Surrey or the City of White Rock about business licences. Tell us if they ask for something in the van, such as a separate hand-wash sink.

How does a salon van get from Langley to Surrey?

It barely has to travel. Langley borders Surrey, so for most Surrey stylists the shop is a short drive along Highway 10, Fraser Highway or Highway 1. Many owners visit during the build (by appointment: email info@provanworks.com) to see the shampoo bowl and chair in place, then pick up at the shop, where we walk through every system with you. If you'd rather not come out, we can drive the van to you. The delivery across Canada page explains how delivery is quoted.

Can I have a Surrey salon van built my way?

Yes. ProVanWorks builds to your own specifications, or you can choose one of our already designed systems and change what you need. The mobile salon vans page shows each layout. For a market stall or a weekend event where you stay parked all day, a mobile beauty salon trailer can suit better.

Frequently asked questions

Does a White Rock salon van need the same heat as one in Cloverdale?

Usually yes. White Rock is a bit milder, but cold snaps reach the bay too, and a pedicure client feels a cold floor at 5 °C.

Can a Surrey salon van offer both hair and nails?

Yes. Tell us which service you do most, and we'll fit a styling chair, a shampoo bowl and a nail station into the room so both work.
