Mobile salon vans for Ontario

ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans at our shop in Langley, BC, and delivers them to stylists, nail technicians and lash artists across Ontario. Ontario stretches from Windsor, across the river from Detroit, to Ottawa and the far north, so a salon van here is set up for the part of the province where you work, from humid lakeshore summers to deep northern cold.

How does Ontario's climate vary for a salon van?

Southern Ontario lives with freeze-thaw. Around Toronto, Hamilton and Windsor, winter temperatures hover near freezing, snow turns to slush and back to ice, and the 400-series highways are heavily salted. Snowbelts east of Lake Huron, Georgian Bay and Lake Superior get squalls that can bury one town and miss the next. Ottawa and Eastern Ontario are colder, with snaps below −25 °C, and Northern Ontario, from Sudbury to Thunder Bay, has long winters with colder lows still. Summers across the south are hot and humid.

ProVanWorks insulates every Ontario salon van in the walls, roof and floor, much thicker than the roughly 16 mm (5/8 inch) used for the Lower Mainland and set for your region. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat warms pipes in the floor and walls, heat exchangers spread the warmth, and a thermostat holds the temperature with the engine off, so a pedicure client has a warm floor. The water lines stay inside the heated van, and in summer the front fan runs the air conditioning.

Which Ontario cities have their own salon van pages?

Each city page covers local weather, where salons work and the health unit to check with:

Where do mobile salons work across Ontario?

In the GTA, a salon van often works from the curb below a condo tower, or from a driveway in the big suburbs around it. Offices, film sets, seniors' residences and new parents at home are steady clients in every large city.

Cottage country in Muskoka and the Kawarthas, Niagara wine country and Prince Edward County host weddings all summer, and a hair, nail or lash van parked at the venue gets the wedding party ready on site. Farm towns and northern communities can be a long drive from any salon. For one-site days at markets, fairs and events, a mobile beauty salon trailer is another option. Parking and setting-up rules are set by each municipality, so check with yours.

What water and power setup suits an Ontario salon van?

A ProVanWorks salon van can carry a shampoo bowl, a pedicure basin and a hand-wash sink, each with running hot water, fed from a fresh water reservoir and draining to a grey water tank. Tanks are sized per build, around how many clients you see and how far apart they are. The nail salon van page shows a typical pedicure layout.

The battery bank charges at Level 2 EV chargers through a J1772 inlet, or from shore power through the 50 A inlet (30 A also available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet. Long winter days in the north favour a bigger battery bank, a summer of cottage weddings may call for a generator (an add-on), and solar panels are available for days parked in the sun.

What rules apply to a mobile salon in Ontario?

Ontario regulates "personal service settings", and each part of the province is served by a local public health unit. Before you book clients, check with the one where you work, for example Toronto Public Health, Peel Public Health (Mississauga and Brampton), Ottawa Public Health, Hamilton Public Health Services, the Middlesex-London Health Unit, Region of Waterloo Public Health or the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. Check with your licensing body too if your service needs a licence.

How does a salon van get from Langley to Ontario?

Each of the eight Ontario cities listed above is more than 4,000 km from Langley by road. The Trans-Canada crosses the Prairies, enters Ontario near Kenora and follows the north shore of Lake Superior through Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie to Sudbury, where the roads split south to the GTA and east to Ottawa. Delivery is quoted per build: ProVanWorks drives the van to you, ships it on a vehicle transport carrier, or you pick it up in Langley. The delivery across Canada page explains the process.
