Mobile salon vans for Quebec
ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans for hair styling, nails and eyelash extensions at our shop in Langley, BC, and delivers them anywhere in Quebec, from Gatineau and Montreal to Quebec City and the regions beyond. In much of Quebec, snow covers the ground for four months or more, so a salon van here gets thick insulation, warm floors and hot water that keeps running in January.
What does Quebec weather ask of a salon van?
Southern Quebec, around Montreal, Laval and Gatineau, has snow on the ground from December into March, cold snaps below −25 °C and hot, humid summers. Quebec City and the regions to the north and east, such as Saguenay and Lac-Saint-Jean, Abitibi, the Côte-Nord and the Gaspé Peninsula, get more snow and longer, colder winters.
A ProVanWorks salon van for Quebec has insulation in the walls, roof and floor, much thicker than the roughly 16 mm (5/8 inch) we use for the Lower Mainland, and we set the thickness for the region where you work. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat sends heat through pipes in the floor and walls, heat exchangers move warm air around the room, and a thermostat holds your setting with the engine off. That warm floor matters for a pedicure client with bare feet, and for a lash client lying still for two hours. In July, the front fan runs the air conditioning, which you will want when the humidity climbs and a hair dryer is running.
Which Quebec cities have their own salon van page?
Four Quebec cities have a page that covers local snow, streets and clients:
- Montreal: snow loading and towing, plexes with outdoor stairs, and condo towers downtown.
- Laval: the island suburb north of Montreal, with driveways, new towers near the metro and farmland in the east.
- Quebec City: the deepest snow of the four, the steep streets of Old Quebec, and Lévis across the river.
- Gatineau: clients on both sides of the Ottawa River, and rural Outaouais roads.
Where do mobile salons find clients across Quebec?
In the cities, a mobile stylist or technician sees clients at home, in offices and in seniors' residences, which are common across Quebec and often have residents who no longer drive to a salon. Outside the cities, a salon van reaches towns where the nearest salon is a long drive away. Weddings and private events at chalets and country venues in the Laurentians, the Eastern Townships and Charlevoix bring work to ski and lake towns, especially in summer and fall. For markets and summer festivals where you stay put all day, a mobile beauty salon trailer may suit you better than a van.
Wherever you park, ask the municipality about parking and setting up, and watch for snow removal notices in winter, since most Quebec towns restrict street parking while they clear the snow.
What water and power setup works for a Quebec salon van?
A Quebec salon van can have a shampoo bowl for hair washing, a pedicure basin and a hand-wash sink, all with hot water from a fresh water reservoir in the utility area. Every drain goes to a grey water tank the same size as or larger than the reservoir, and both are sized for your build. Many Quebec homeowners shut off their outdoor taps from fall to spring, so in winter, plan to fill the reservoir through the water inlet before you leave rather than counting on a client's hose.
The auxiliary battery bank charges at Level 2 EV chargers (J1772), which you will find in many Quebec towns, or from shore power through the 50 A inlet (30 A also available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet. Solar panels are an add-on, though December days are short this far north and east. A generator, also an add-on, suits a stylist who works chalet weddings far from any outlet, and long cold days with dryers running favour a bigger battery bank. The nail salon van and lash van pages show what each layout needs.
What rules apply to a mobile salon in Quebec?
Check with your municipality and your regional public health office before you book clients, both about personal services and about where you can park and set up. Plan for winter tires too: Quebec requires them on passenger vehicles from December 1 to March 15, and a loaded salon van needs good grip on packed snow whatever its registration.
How does a salon van travel from Langley to Quebec?
From Langley, the usual road route follows the Trans-Canada east over the Coquihalla or through the Fraser Canyon, across Rogers Pass and the Prairies, then around Lake Superior through northern Ontario to Ottawa. Gatineau is about 4,400 km from the shop, Montreal and Laval about 4,800 km, and Quebec City more than 5,000 km, with more distance for Saguenay, Abitibi or the Gaspé. ProVanWorks drives the van to you, ships it on a vehicle transport carrier, or you pick it up in Langley, and delivery is quoted with each build. See delivery across Canada.
