Mobile medical clinic trailers
A ProVanWorks mobile medical clinic trailer is a heated, insulated work trailer fitted out as a private exam room, with patient seating, a hand-washing sink with hot water and battery power for your equipment. We build each clinic trailer at our shop in Langley, BC, and deliver to practitioners across Canada and in the United States. Tow it to a clinic site, unhitch it, and see patients for the day.
Who uses a mobile medical clinic trailer?
A mobile clinic trailer suits practitioners and organizations that run clinic days at one site at a time, rather than driving to many homes in a day. Common uses include:
- Clinic days in rural and remote communities that have no local office.
- Workplace and industrial sites, such as construction camps and plants.
- Seniors' residences and community centres.
- Vaccination, screening and eye exam days at events, schools and markets.
The trailer stays parked and warm for the whole clinic, and your truck is free for other trips. If you mostly make house calls, a mobile medical clinic van may suit you better, since one vehicle is easier to park on residential streets. ProVanWorks builds both.
What goes inside a ProVanWorks clinic trailer?
A ProVanWorks clinic trailer has a closed exam room for you and the patient, and a seating area where the next patient or a caregiver waits. The drawing at the top of this page shows a common layout, with the exam room in the back half behind a partition and doorway, and patient seating and a desk in the front half by the door. The build can include:
- An exam table under the ceiling lights.
- A counter with a sink with running hot water for washing hands, with room for soap and a sharps bin.
- Locked cabinets for supplies and equipment.
- A window with privacy blinds, or no window at all.
- A desk for paperwork or a laptop, and seating for patients.
- Two fans, with air conditioning on the front fan.
We use top-quality products and materials in every build. Tell us how you examine patients and what equipment you carry, and we plan the room around it.
Can I pick a ready-designed layout or have my own built?
Yes, either one. ProVanWorks builds every clinic trailer to the customer's specifications, or you can start from one of our already designed systems and change what you need. Send us your college's facility requirements, your equipment list and how many patients you see in a day, and we'll lay out the trailer to match.
What comes in every ProVanWorks clinic trailer?
Every feature we build into our vans is available in a ProVanWorks clinic trailer: insulation in the walls, roof and floor, in-floor and in-wall heat with heat exchangers and a thermostat, two fans with air conditioning, a fresh water reservoir and grey water tank, an auxiliary battery bank, cabinets and a waterproof floor that wipes clean. The cards below explain each system.
Features available in every ProVanWorks trailer
-
In-floor and in-wall heat
A diesel, gas or electric heater warms fluid that runs through pipes in the floor and walls, plus heat exchangers around the work area, so the whole trailer warms evenly.
How the heating works: In-floor and in-wall heat -
Hot water in deep cold
Hot water at the tub in very low winter temperatures, with the water reservoir kept inside the insulated, heated trailer.
The water system: Hot water in deep cold -
Large fresh and grey tanks
A large water reservoir for a full day of work, filled through a water inlet that can also supply water on the spot, and a separate grey water tank that empties through an outlet with an electric switch.
Tanks and grey water: Large fresh and grey tanks -
Batteries that charge at EV stations
An auxiliary battery bank runs your equipment and lights. It tops up through a J1772 inlet at the same Level 2 chargers electric cars use, or through the 50 A (or 30 A) and 20 A, 120 V inlets. A generator is available as an add-on.
Power and EV charging: Batteries that charge at EV stations -
Thermostat, fans and A/C
A thermostat holds the temperature you set. Two fans move air front and back, and the front fan also runs the air conditioning for summer.
Heating and cooling: Thermostat, fans and A/C -
Lights every 30 cm
Lights run along the ceiling about every 30 cm (1 ft), so there are no shadows on the dog while you scissor and trim.
How the layout works: Lights every 30 cm -
Waterproof floor and cabinets
A waterproof floor handles bath water, snow and slush. Cabinets in the trailer keep shampoo, tools and towels in reach.
How the layout works: Waterproof floor and cabinets -
Door railing and windows
A railing at the door keeps dogs inside when the door is open. Optional windows bring in daylight and open for fresh air.

How does a clinic trailer power medical equipment?
A ProVanWorks clinic trailer runs its lights, fans and your equipment from an auxiliary battery bank in the utility area. The batteries charge at Level 2 EV chargers through a J1772 inlet, or from shore power through the 50 A inlet (30 A also available) and the 20 A, 120 V inlet. High-amp inverters and chargers are available for equipment that draws more power.
A generator is an optional add-on for clinic trailers that run full days at remote sites with no outlet or charger nearby. Solar panels are also available and can top up the batteries while the trailer sits at one site. Send us a list of every device you plug in, with its power rating, so we can size the battery bank and tell you whether a generator makes sense for your sites.
How does a clinic trailer stay comfortable in winter and summer?
A ProVanWorks clinic trailer stays warm with insulation in the walls, roof and floor and heat that comes through pipes in the floor and walls plus heat exchangers. A diesel, gas or electric heater runs the system, and a thermostat holds the temperature you set, which matters when a patient undresses for an exam. In summer, the front fan runs the air conditioning. Insulation is about 16 mm (5/8 inch) for the Lower Mainland, and much thicker for Northern BC, the Prairies, the North and Eastern Canada. The cold-weather design page explains the heating system.
How private is a mobile clinic trailer?
A ProVanWorks clinic trailer has a closed exam room behind a partition, with the door to the outside in the front half, so a patient being examined is never beside the entrance. Windows are optional. Leave them out for a fully closed room, or add windows with blinds. Privacy rules for health records and exams are set by your college and your province or state, so check what applies to you and tell us anything the layout needs.
What standards apply to a mobile clinic?
Regulatory colleges and health authorities set the standards for clinical spaces, and those standards are the practitioner's responsibility. Check what your college and health authority require before you plan the layout, and send us the list. ProVanWorks builds the trailer to the layout you approve.
Frequently asked questions
Can a clinic trailer have a generator?
Yes. A generator is an optional add-on for any ProVanWorks clinic trailer. Most trailers run on the battery bank, charged at EV chargers or from shore power, and a generator adds power for long days at remote sites.
Can a clinic trailer be set up for an eye doctor?
Yes. ProVanWorks builds clinic layouts for eye doctors, with a closed exam room in the back half. See the eye clinic layout on the mobile medical clinic van page; the same layout can be built in a trailer.
How do I get a price for a clinic trailer?
Email info@provanworks.com with how you practise, the equipment you carry, how many patients you see in a day, the truck you'll tow with and where you'll set up. We reply with a layout and a quote. See our other custom work trailers.
