Mobile salon vans for Spokane

ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans for hair, nails and lashes in Langley, BC, and delivers them to Spokane, about 620 km (385 miles) away on the far side of the Cascades. Spokane has the hardest weather of any Washington city we serve, with snowy winters and hot summers, so its salon vans are insulated much more heavily than our vans for Seattle.

A hair salon van for Spokane gets thicker insulation than our coastal vans, so the shampoo bowl has hot water on a January morning.

How do Spokane winters and summers shape a salon van?

Spokane sits in the dry interior, east of the mountains. Winters bring regular snow and stretches of days that stay below freezing, with cold snaps that can drop past −15 °C (5 °F). Summers are the opposite: dry, sunny and often above 30 °C (86 °F), with some afternoons near 38 °C (100 °F) and, some years, wildfire smoke that makes you keep the windows shut.

For that range ProVanWorks builds Spokane salon vans with much thicker insulation in the walls, roof and floor than the 16 mm (5/8 inch) we use on the coast, with the exact thickness set for each build. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat sends heat through pipes in the floor and walls and through heat exchangers, a thermostat holds the temperature, and the heater keeps running with the engine off. Hot water keeps working in winter because the reservoir and lines stay inside the heated van. In July the front fan runs the air conditioning, so hair dryers and hot tools don't turn the room into an oven.

Where do mobile salons work around Spokane?

Spokane is spread out, and many clients live where the nearest salon is a long drive: the South Hill, north Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, Cheney, Airway Heights and the rural acreages and farm towns beyond. Seniors' residences, people recovering at home, students in Cheney and wedding parties at barns, lake properties and venues out of town are all regular work for a mobile salon. Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, is about half an hour east, but Idaho has its own rules for salons and licences.

Check with the City of Spokane about street parking and setting up at the curb, and with Spokane Valley or Spokane County for addresses outside the city. For long days at fairs, rodeos and markets, a mobile beauty salon trailer is worth a look.

What water and power setup suits a Spokane salon van?

A hair salon van for Spokane has a shampoo bowl with hot water, often a hand-wash sink, and a grey water tank the same size as or larger than the fresh water reservoir. On a deep-cold night, keep the heater on the thermostat, plug into shore power, park in a heated space, or drain the water system.

Cold days and hot days both draw more power, for heating in January and air conditioning in July, so tell us about both seasons when we size the battery bank. It charges at Level 2 EV chargers through a J1772 inlet and from shore power through the 50 A inlet (30 A available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet. Spokane's sunny summers suit the solar panel add-on, and a generator is an add-on for rural routes and events far from an outlet. High-amp inverters for dryers and hot tools are available too.

What rules apply to a mobile salon in Spokane?

Check with the Washington State Department of Licensing about cosmetology licences for your services, and with the Spokane Regional Health District about what applies to a mobile salon in Spokane County. Check with the City of Spokane, or the city where you work, about business licensing. If you cross into Idaho, check Idaho's rules separately.

How does a salon van get from Langley to Spokane?

From the Langley shop, the van crosses at Aldergrove, BC / Lynden, WA, heads south on I-5, then turns east on I-90 near Seattle and climbs over Snoqualmie Pass, through Ellensburg and Moses Lake to Spokane. It is about 620 km (385 miles) and most of a day's drive. In winter, Snoqualmie Pass can need chains or close for snow, so allow for the weather when you plan pickup or delivery. You can pick up the van in Langley, have ProVanWorks drive it to you, or have it shipped on a vehicle transport carrier. Quotes come in USD or CAD, your choice, and we'll walk you through the border paperwork when you order. See how delivery works.

Can I get a salon van designed for Spokane?

Yes. ProVanWorks builds to your own specifications, or you can start from one of our already designed systems and we adjust the insulation, heater and battery bank for Eastern Washington. See all mobile salon vans and our page for Washington State.

Frequently asked questions

Will a salon van stay warm through a Spokane winter?

A ProVanWorks salon van for Spokane is built with much thicker insulation, heat through the floor and walls, and a heater that runs with the engine off on a thermostat. We size the heater and battery bank for your working day.

Is solar worth adding in Spokane?

Spokane's dry, sunny summers make solar panels more useful than on the wet coast. In winter, plan on EV chargers and shore power as the main ways to charge the battery bank.

Can a Spokane customer pay in US dollars?

Yes. Your quote can be in USD or CAD. Email info@provanworks.com with your services, what you plug in and where you work.
