Mobile salon vans in Nova Scotia

ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans in Langley, BC, and delivers them to nail technicians, stylists and lash artists across Nova Scotia. No part of the province is far from salt water, so damp air, salted roads and storms off the Atlantic shape every van we send there.

How does Nova Scotia's climate vary for a salon van?

The Atlantic coast, from Yarmouth through Halifax and along the Eastern Shore, has damp winters that sit near freezing, with frequent swings between snow and rain, and cool, foggy springs. The Annapolis Valley is more sheltered, with warmer summers and colder, clearer winter nights. Cape Breton gets heavier snow and stronger wind, especially in the highlands. Nor'easters can strike anywhere from late fall to spring, and in late summer or fall the remains of a hurricane sometimes reach the province with wind and heavy rain.

For a nail van, that adds up to a room that must stay warm and dry for bare feet. A ProVanWorks salon van for Nova Scotia gets much thicker insulation in the walls, roof and floor than the 16 mm (5/8 inch) used for the Lower Mainland. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat warms the floor and walls through pipes and heat exchangers, a thermostat holds the temperature, and the heater runs with the engine off. On humid summer days, the front fan runs the air conditioning, and two fans, front and back, carry polish and acrylic fumes out of the room when the windows stay closed.

Which Nova Scotia city has a salon van page?

Sydney, Truro, New Glasgow, Antigonish, Wolfville, Kentville, Bridgewater and Yarmouth don't have their own pages yet, but ProVanWorks delivers salon vans anywhere in Nova Scotia.

Where do mobile salons work across Nova Scotia?

Beyond Halifax, Nova Scotia is a province of small towns and long coastal roads, and many clients live an hour or more from a full-service salon. A salon van can serve:

Each town sets its own rules, so check with your municipality about parking and setting up a salon van. For a full day at a market or an exhibition, a mobile beauty salon trailer may suit you better.

What water and power setup fits a Nova Scotia salon van?

A mobile nail salon van carries a pedicure basin with hot water and a hand-wash sink; a hair van adds a shampoo bowl. Reservoir and grey water tank sizes are set for each build around how many clients you see between refills. The plumbing stays inside the heated room, so the hot water keeps working when the coast freezes.

The auxiliary battery bank charges at Level 2 EV chargers (J1772), or from shore power through the 50 A inlet (30 A available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet. A van that works weddings in the Valley or tours the Cabot Trail in summer may want a generator for days away from an outlet, and solar panels help a van parked at one venue all day. Both are add-ons.

What rules apply to mobile salons in Nova Scotia?

Check with your provincial public health inspectors about the rules for nail, hair and lash services offered from a vehicle, and with your municipality about parking and permits. Tell us about any fixture the rules require before the build starts.

How does a salon van get to Nova Scotia from Langley?

The van follows the Trans-Canada across the Prairies, northern Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick, and enters Nova Scotia at Amherst. Halifax is close to 6,000 km from the Langley shop by road, and Cape Breton is farther still, across the Canso Causeway. ProVanWorks drives the van, ships it on a vehicle transport carrier, or you pick it up in Langley. Delivery is priced for each build, and the delivery across Canada page walks through it.

You can have the van built to your own specifications, or start from one of ProVanWorks' already designed systems and change it. See the hair, nail, lash and massage layouts on the mobile salon vans page.

Frequently asked questions

Does salt air matter for a salon van in Nova Scotia?

Yes. Salt air near the coast and salt on winter roads both speed up rust on the frame and underside, so rinse the van often and have it checked every spring. In a ProVanWorks van, the water reservoir and the battery bank sit in the utility area at the back, inside the insulated, heated van rather than under the floor.

Can one van cover Halifax and the Annapolis Valley?

Yes. The Valley is about an hour from Halifax, and a salon van with its own water, heat and battery power works the same at a vineyard as in a city driveway. Group Valley clients on the same day to keep the driving down.
