Mobile grooming vans built for Canadian winters
ProVanWorks builds mobile dog grooming vans in Langley, BC, that stay warm and keep the hot water running through a Canadian winter. Each van is insulated and heated through the floor and walls, carries a large water reservoir and a grey water tank, and has a battery bank you can charge at an EV station. We ship finished vans to groomers across Canada.
What is a ProVanWorks grooming van?
A ProVanWorks grooming van is a cargo van turned into a self-contained grooming salon. It carries its own heat, water and power, so you park at the client's home and start working without plugging into their house. The base van can be diesel, gas or electric, and every van is customized for the groomer who orders it.
Inside, the work area has a hot water tub, a grooming table, cabinets and a waterproof floor. Lights run along the ceiling about every 30 cm so there are no shadows on the dog. A railing at the cargo door keeps dogs inside when the door is open, and optional windows bring in daylight and open for fresh air. The mobile grooming van page goes through the full layout.
What goes into every grooming van we build
-
In-floor and in-wall heat
A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat warms fluid that runs through pipes in the floor and walls, plus heat exchangers around the cargo area. The whole work area warms evenly, floor included.
How the heating works: In-floor and in-wall heat -
Hot water in deep cold
Hot water at the tub in very low winter temperatures, with the water reservoir kept inside the insulated, heated van.
The water system: Hot water in deep cold -
Large fresh and grey tanks
A large water reservoir sits in the utility area at the back. A separate grey water tank holds the bath water, so nothing drains onto a client's driveway.
Tanks and grey water: Large fresh and grey tanks -
Batteries that charge at EV stations
The auxiliary battery bank in the utility area runs your equipment and lights, and tops up from the same Level 2 chargers electric cars use.
Power and EV charging: Batteries that charge at EV stations -
Thermostat, fans and A/C
A thermostat holds the temperature you set. Two fans move air front and back, and the front fan also runs the air conditioning for summer.
Heating and cooling: Thermostat, fans and A/C -
Lights every 30 cm
Lights run along the ceiling about every 30 cm (1 ft), so there are no shadows on the dog while you scissor and trim.
The full van layout: Lights every 30 cm -
Waterproof floor and cabinets
A waterproof floor handles bath water, snow and slush. Cabinets in the cargo area keep shampoo, tools and towels in reach.

Door railing and windows
A railing at the cargo door keeps dogs inside when the door is open. Optional windows bring in daylight and open for fresh air.

Why do Canadian groomers need a winter-ready van?
A grooming van that works fine in a mild climate can fail in a prairie January. Water lines and tanks freeze. Lithium batteries lose capacity in the cold and shouldn't be charged below 0 °C unless they're warmed. A wet dog in a cold van chills fast, and so does the groomer.
ProVanWorks designs around those problems. The cargo area is insulated. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat sends heat through pipes in the floor and walls and through heat exchangers around the work area. The water reservoir and auxiliary batteries sit in a utility area at the back, inside that warm shell. The cold-weather design page explains each part.
Does a grooming van need air conditioning in Canada?
Yes, for most of the country. Summers in the Okanagan, the Prairies and southern Ontario get hot, and a closed van with a dryer running heats up quickly. A ProVanWorks van has two fans in the cargo area, one at the front and one at the back, and the front fan also runs the air conditioning. One thermostat controls the temperature all year.
Can I charge a grooming van at an EV charger?
Yes. The auxiliary battery bank in a ProVanWorks grooming van charges from Level 2 EV chargers, the kind found in public parking lots, at grocery stores and at community centres across Canada. A charging stop over lunch tops up the batteries for the afternoon. See power and EV charging for how the system is set up.
Grooming van, trailer or salon?
ProVanWorks builds both grooming vans and grooming trailers, with the same features available in each. A van is one vehicle that parks in a single spot and suits house calls on tight streets. A trailer suits groomers who already own a truck, or who want to unhitch at one site for the day. A storefront salon has no driving, but comes with a lease and clients who have to come to you. The comparison below sets out the main differences.
| Grooming van | Grooming trailer | Storefront salon | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Parking at a client's home | One vehicle, fits a driveway or a single street spot | Tow vehicle plus trailer, needs more room to park and turn | Clients come to you |
| Driving in snow | One vehicle on winter tires | Towing on ice needs more care and longer stopping distances | No driving |
| Leaving it on site | The van goes wherever you go | Unhitch it at a market, clinic day or event and use the tow vehicle for other jobs | Fixed location |
| If you already own a truck | You buy or supply a van | Your truck can tow it, if it is rated for the trailer's weight | Not applicable |
| Heat, water and power | Built in by ProVanWorks | Built in by ProVanWorks, with the same features available | Building heat and plumbing |
| Fixed costs | Van, fuel, insurance | Trailer, insurance, plus a tow vehicle | Lease, utilities, front-desk staff |

How much does a mobile grooming van cost?
The price of a ProVanWorks grooming van depends on the base van (diesel, gas or electric), the layout, the heater, tank sizes and the battery bank. Because every van is built to order, we quote each one by email. Write to info@provanworks.com with where you groom and how many dogs you see in a day. Our grooming van cost guide explains what moves the price.
What else does ProVanWorks do?
ProVanWorks also builds custom work trailers and mobile business vans for beauty and spa services, doctors and vets, with the same heat, water and power. The Langley shop also sprays bed liners for pickup trucks and floor liners for work vans, installs roof fans and A/C in any van, and designs and installs van wraps.
