<!-- Drawing: Side cutaway of a heated, insulated high-roof van set up as a mobile nail salon. The back half is a service room behind a partition with an open doorway, holding a sink with running hot water, a reclining pedicure chair whose footbath is fed with hot water from the reservoir, and a manicure table with a nail lamp facing the client's chair, under close-set ceiling lights. The front half by the side door has customer seating and a cabinet, the battery bank and water sit in the utility area at the very back, and the floor is heated with a grey water tank under it. A strip along the bottom shows the standard hookups on every van and trailer, which can be changed for each build: a water inlet to fill the reservoir or use water on the spot, a grey water outlet opened with an electric switch, a J1772 EV charging inlet, a 50 A power inlet (30 A also available) and a 20 A, 120 V inlet. -->

# Mobile salon vans for Oregon

ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans for hair, nails and lashes at our shop in Langley, BC, and delivers them to Oregon, a straight run down I-5 from the Aldergrove, BC / Lynden, WA border crossing. Most Oregonians live in the Willamette Valley between Portland and Eugene, where winters are mild and wet, but the state also reaches into high desert and mountain country with real winters.

## What climates does an Oregon salon van have to handle?

The Willamette Valley, from Portland through Salem and Corvallis to Eugene, has cool, rainy winters and warm, dry summers. Snow is occasional and freezing rain more of a worry: Portland in particular gets ice storms when cold air from the Columbia River Gorge meets Pacific rain. For the valley, ProVanWorks uses about 16 mm (5/8 inch) of insulation in the walls, roof and floor, the same as for the Lower Mainland of BC, with the plumbing kept inside the heated room so hot water reaches the pedicure basin on an icy morning.

East of the Cascades, Bend, Redmond and the rest of central and eastern Oregon have colder, snowier winters and hot, dry summers. Salon vans for that side of the state get much thicker insulation, set for each build. On the coast, winters are wetter and windier but rarely cold.

Every ProVanWorks salon van has a small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat that heats the floor and walls through pipes, with a thermostat, and the heater runs with the engine off. In summer, the front fan of the two in the cargo area runs the air conditioning.

## Which Oregon cities have their own salon van page?

We have pages with local climate, routes and rules for three Oregon cities on I-5:

- [Portland](/mobile-salon-vans/portland/), Oregon's largest city, on the Columbia River.
- [Salem](/mobile-salon-vans/salem/), the state capital, in the middle of the valley.
- [Eugene](/mobile-salon-vans/eugene/), at the south end of the Willamette Valley.

We also build for stylists and technicians in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Gresham, Corvallis, Albany, Bend, Medford and the coast.

## Where do mobile salons work across Oregon?

In Portland and its suburbs, mobile salons work at apartment buildings, offices, seniors' residences and family homes. Through the valley, the work spreads to small towns and rural properties where the nearest salon is a drive away. Weddings are a big part of the year: wineries in the Willamette Valley, venues in the Columbia River Gorge, and the coast from Astoria to Florence. Bend and the resorts around it host weddings and events in ski season and through the summer.

For a market, fair or festival where you set up for the whole day, a [mobile beauty salon trailer](/custom-work-trailers/beauty-salon-trailer/) is another option to compare.

## What water and power does an Oregon salon van need?

A ProVanWorks [nail salon van](/mobile-salon-vans/nail-salon-van/) has a pedicure basin and a hand-wash sink with hot water. A hair van adds a shampoo bowl, and a lash van usually needs only the sink. The fresh water reservoir fills through the water inlet, every drain runs to a grey water tank the same size as or larger than the reservoir, and the tanks are sized around your appointments.

The battery bank charges at Level 2 EV chargers (J1772), from shore power through the 50 A inlet (30 A available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet, and from solar panels or a generator as add-ons. City routes in Portland, Salem and Eugene have plenty of chargers. Wine country weddings, coast trips and central Oregon routes favour a generator or a larger battery bank, and the long dry summers make solar more useful than in the wet months.

## What rules apply to mobile salons in Oregon?

The Oregon Health Licensing Office licenses cosmetology practitioners and facilities. Ask it what applies to a mobile salon before you book clients. Check with your city or county about parking, business licences and anything else they require where you work.

## How does a salon van get from Langley to Oregon?

From the Langley shop the van crosses at Aldergrove, BC / Lynden, WA, then follows I-5 through Bellingham, Everett, Seattle and Tacoma, crosses the Columbia River into Portland, and continues south to Salem and Eugene. Portland is about 480 km (300 miles) from the shop, Salem about 555 km (345 miles) and Eugene about 660 km (410 miles).

You can pick up the van in Langley and drive it home, have ProVanWorks drive it to you, or have it shipped on a vehicle transport carrier. Oregon customers can have their quote in USD or CAD, and we'll walk you through the border paperwork when you order. Read how [delivery](/delivery-across-canada/) works.

## Can I have my Oregon salon van built to my own design?

Yes. ProVanWorks builds to your own specifications, or you can choose one of our already designed systems and change what you need. The [mobile salon vans](/mobile-salon-vans/) page shows the hair, nail, lash and massage layouts.
