In the service room in the back half, the client lies back with eyes closed on a padded reclining lash bed while the technician sits on a stool at the client's head under a lamp on an arm, next to a small rolling cart with tweezers and lash trays, a sink with running hot water and a window closed behind a privacy blind. The front half by the side door has customer seating, a cabinet and the thermostat, two fans and close-set lights run along the ceiling, and the battery bank and water sit in the utility area at the back. A strip along the bottom shows the standard hookups on every van and trailer, which can be changed for each build: a water inlet to fill the reservoir or use water on the spot, a grey water outlet opened with an electric switch, a J1772 EV charging inlet, a 50 A power inlet (30 A also available) and a 20 A, 120 V inlet. -->

# Mobile salon vans for Burnaby

ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans for lashes, nails and hair in Langley, a straight run east of Burnaby on Highway 1. Burnaby packs tower clusters, quiet hillside streets and a mountaintop university into one city, so a salon van here has to stay warm on a snowy slope as well as at a busy curb.

## How does Burnaby's climate shape a salon van?

Most of Burnaby gets the Lower Mainland's wet, mild winter, but height changes things. Burnaby Mountain, with SFU on top, and the hills of North Burnaby often hold snow when Metrotown and the flats along the Fraser have only rain. A van parked on a cold hillside for a two-hour lash set is losing heat the whole time.

A ProVanWorks lash van has about 16 mm (5/8 inch) of insulation in the walls, roof and floor, our thickness for Lower Mainland vans, and that layer also cuts street and traffic noise while the client lies back with eyes closed. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat warms pipes in the floor and walls and heat exchangers around the room. The thermostat holds the temperature and the heater keeps going with the engine off. Warm floors matter for pedicure clients too. In July, the front fan runs the air conditioning.

## Where do mobile salons work in Burnaby?

Burnaby's towers cluster around SkyTrain at Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed and Edmonds, and many residents work long hours and would rather have a lash fill or a manicure at the lobby door than drive to a salon. The city also has office parks and business campuses where staff book services at lunch, and the SFU and BCIT campuses bring students and staff who keep odd hours.

Burnaby is home to several film and TV studios, and productions often need hair and makeup on location nearby. Seniors' residences and the single-family streets of South Slope and Capitol Hill round out a route.

Tower parkades are usually too low for a van with standing room, so you'll be on the street or in a loading zone. Ask the building manager where a service vehicle can stop, and check with the City of Burnaby about parking and setting up on residential streets.

## What water and power setup suits a Burnaby salon van?

A lash van needs much less water than a hair or nail van. Most Burnaby lash artists choose a hand-wash sink with running hot water and a soap pump, fed from a smaller fresh water reservoir and draining to a grey water tank, which leaves more room for client seating and storage. If you also offer pedicures or hair washing, a ProVanWorks van can add a pedicure basin or a shampoo bowl, and the tanks are sized up to match. Grey water goes to an approved disposal point or the sanitary sewer, never a storm drain.

The lash lamp, a curing fan, the lights and the heat and A/C run from the auxiliary battery bank. The batteries charge at Level 2 EV chargers through a J1772 inlet; Burnaby's shopping centres and public lots have them, and a dense route makes it easy to stop near one. Shore power comes in through the 50 A inlet (30 A also available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet. Solar panels and a generator are add-ons, though a city route rarely needs the generator. ## What rules apply to a mobile salon in Burnaby?

Burnaby is in the Fraser Health region. Check with Fraser Health about personal service rules for lashes, nails and hair before you book clients, and with the City of Burnaby about business licences. Tell us if they ask for anything in the van.

## How does a salon van get from Langley to Burnaby?

Burnaby is about 35 km west of Langley on Highway 1, over the Port Mann Bridge, and the drive takes less than an hour outside rush hour. Most Burnaby owners come to the shop for pickup, where we go through the heater, thermostat, water system and battery charging with you. We can also drive the van to you, or ship it on a vehicle transport carrier. See [delivery across Canada](/delivery-across-canada/) for how delivery is quoted.

## Can I have a Burnaby salon van built my way?

Yes. ProVanWorks builds to your own specifications, or you can pick one of our already designed systems and change what you need. The [mobile salon vans](/mobile-salon-vans/) page shows each layout. If you work campus fairs or weekend markets from one spot, look at the [mobile beauty salon trailer](/custom-work-trailers/beauty-salon-trailer/) too.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is a lash van quiet enough on a busy Burnaby street?

A ProVanWorks lash van has insulation in the walls, roof and floor, which cuts road and street noise. Windows are optional, so the service room can be fully closed or fitted with blinds.

### Can I work on Burnaby Mountain in winter?

Once parked, the van holds its heat with the engine off. Getting up the hill on a snow day depends on your tires and the road, so check conditions before you set out.

### Can a Burnaby lash van also do nails?

Yes. Many technicians combine lashes and nails in one van. Tell us which you do most, and we'll plan the bed, the manicure table, the lighting and the water to fit.
