In the service room in the back half, the client lies back with eyes closed on a padded reclining lash bed while the technician sits on a stool at the client's head under a lamp on an arm, next to a small rolling cart with tweezers and lash trays, a sink with running hot water and a window closed behind a privacy blind. The front half by the side door has customer seating, a cabinet and the thermostat, two fans and close-set lights run along the ceiling, and the battery bank and water sit in the utility area at the back. A strip along the bottom shows the standard hookups on every van and trailer, which can be changed for each build: a water inlet to fill the reservoir or use water on the spot, a grey water outlet opened with an electric switch, a J1772 EV charging inlet, a 50 A power inlet (30 A also available) and a 20 A, 120 V inlet. -->

# Mobile salon vans for Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley

ProVanWorks builds mobile salon vans for lashes, nails and hair at our shop in Langley, just west of Abbotsford on Highway 1. Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack take the full force of the Fraser Valley's outflow winds, and many clients live on farms, so a salon van here has to hold its heat in a hard wind and carry enough water and power for long drives.

## How do Fraser Valley winds shape a salon van?

When cold air builds up in the BC Interior, it drains west through the Fraser Canyon and blows straight down the valley. Chilliwack and Abbotsford are first in line, and the wind can last for days, sometimes with snow or freezing rain, and with a wind chill well below what the thermometer says.

A ProVanWorks salon van has insulation in the walls, roof and floor, about 16 mm (5/8 inch) as on our Lower Mainland vans, with the thickness set for each build. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat sends heat through pipes in the floor and walls and through heat exchangers, and the thermostat holds the room steady with the engine off. A lash client lying still for two hours, or a pedicure client with bare feet, stays comfortable while the wind blows outside. The water lines run inside the heated van, so the sink still has hot water on a −10 °C morning.

In summer the valley gets hotter the further you are from the coast, and the front fan in the cargo area runs the air conditioning.

## Where do mobile salons work around Abbotsford?

Abbotsford is a city of subdivisions and farmland side by side. West Abbotsford and Clearbrook have dense streets and townhouses, while Sumas Prairie, Matsqui and the berry fields to the east are spread out, with long gravel driveways and clients who would otherwise drive a long way for an appointment. Mission's streets climb the hillside north of the river, and Chilliwack mixes a growing town with farms around Rosedale and Greendale.

Barns, farms and country halls across the valley host weddings, and a lash or hair van can set up beside the venue for the morning. Seniors' residences are regular stops for nails and hair.

Check with the City of Abbotsford, the City of Mission or the City of Chilliwack about parking and setting up on residential streets before you book regular stops.

## What water and power setup suits an Abbotsford salon van?

A lash van needs less water than a hair or nail van. Most lash artists choose a hand-wash sink with running hot water, fed from a fresh water reservoir in the utility area and draining to a grey water tank under the floor. If you add nails or hair, a ProVanWorks van can carry a pedicure basin or a shampoo bowl, with the tanks sized up for your appointments. Ditches in the valley feed local streams, so grey water goes to an approved disposal point or the sanitary sewer, never a ditch or storm drain.

Rural routes shape the power system more than anything. The auxiliary battery bank charges at Level 2 EV chargers through a J1772 inlet, and those are easier to find in central Abbotsford or Chilliwack than on the farm roads, so plan a charging stop in town. Shore power comes in through the 50 A inlet (30 A also available) or the 20 A, 120 V inlet. For long days at farm stops, a larger battery bank or a generator (an add-on) keeps the heat, lamp and lights running, and solar panels can add charge while you're parked. The [mobile lash van](/mobile-salon-vans/lash-van/) page covers the bed, lamp and ventilation.

## What rules apply to a mobile salon in Abbotsford?

Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack are in the Fraser Health region. Check with Fraser Health about personal service rules for lashes, nails and hair before you book clients, and with your city about business licences. If they ask for something in the van, such as a hand-wash sink, tell us and we'll build it in.

## How does a salon van get from Langley to Abbotsford?

Central Abbotsford is about 30 km east of Langley on Highway 1. Chilliwack is further east on the same highway, and Mission is across the Fraser by the Mission Bridge. Most owners in all three cities pick up at the shop, where we go through every system with you. We can also drive the van to you, or ship it on a vehicle transport carrier. Shop visits during the build are by appointment. See [delivery across Canada](/delivery-across-canada/) for how delivery is quoted.

## Can I have an Abbotsford salon van built my way?

Yes. ProVanWorks builds to your own specifications, or you can choose one of our already designed systems and change what you need. The [mobile salon vans](/mobile-salon-vans/) page shows each layout. For farm markets and country fairs where you stay in one place, a [mobile beauty salon trailer](/custom-work-trailers/beauty-salon-trailer/) is another option.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will a salon van stay warm in an Abbotsford outflow wind?

Yes. Insulation in the walls, roof and floor, in-floor and in-wall heat and the thermostat keep the room steady, and the heater runs with the engine off.

### Can I run a lash van from farm to farm without plugging in?

Yes, with a battery bank sized for your day. Send us what you plug in and how long it runs, and tell us how far apart your stops are, so we can size the batteries and decide whether a generator makes sense.
