# Mobile medical clinic vans

A ProVanWorks mobile medical clinic is a heated, insulated cargo van fitted out as an exam room, with patient seating, hand-washing water and battery power for your equipment. We build each clinic van at our shop in Langley, BC, and ship to practitioners across Canada and in the United States. The van lets you see patients where they are, without a storefront clinic.

## Who uses a mobile medical clinic van?

A mobile medical clinic van suits practitioners who go to their patients rather than waiting for patients to come in. Common uses include:

- House calls for patients who find it hard to leave home.
- Rural and remote communities without a clinic of their own.
- Workplace clinics on job sites, at plants or at company offices.
- Visits to seniors' residences, where many patients live at one address.

In each case the ProVanWorks van parks close to the patient and gives you a private, warm room to work in. We use top-quality products and materials in every build.

## What goes inside a ProVanWorks clinic van?

A ProVanWorks clinic van has two zones: an exam area where you work and a seating area where the patient, or a parent or caregiver, sits or waits. A common layout makes the back half of the cargo area a closed exam room, with seating or storage cabinets in the front half beside the side door. The rest of the build comes from our heated van platform:

- An exam area laid out around the table or chair you use.
- Cabinets along the walls for supplies and equipment.
- A sink with running hot water, fed from a fresh water reservoir and draining to a grey water tank, so you can wash your hands between patients.
- A waterproof floor that you can wipe down after each visit.
- Ceiling lights over the exam area.
- Optional windows that open, for daylight and fresh air.

Tell us how you examine patients and what equipment you carry, and we plan the room around it. The [water system](/mobile-grooming-vans/water-system/) page explains how the tanks and hot water work in winter.

## Can a clinic van be set up for an eye doctor?

Yes. ProVanWorks builds clinic vans for eye doctors with the exam room in the back half of the cargo area and a seating area in the front, where patients wait and where a cabinet can hold frames and supplies. The exam room has space for an exam chair and your instruments, and a sink with running hot water.

Tell us which instruments you use and the room you need for them, and we plan the exam room around your equipment.

## How does a clinic van power medical equipment?

A ProVanWorks clinic van powers your equipment, lights and fans from an auxiliary battery bank. The batteries charge at Level 2 EV chargers, the same public chargers electric cars use, so you can top up between stops. Solar panels are an add-on and suit a clinic van that parks at one site for a full day, such as a workplace or a community hall.

Send us a list of the devices you plan to run and how long they run each day, so we can size the battery bank. More detail is on the [power and EV charging](/mobile-grooming-vans/power-and-ev-charging/) page.

## How does a mobile clinic stay comfortable in winter and summer?

A ProVanWorks clinic van stays warm in winter because the cargo area is insulated in the walls, roof and floor, and heat comes up through the floor and out of the walls. A small diesel, gas or electric heater under the seat warms the pipes, heat exchangers move the warm air, and a thermostat holds the temperature. A patient who has to undress for an exam stays warm. In summer, the front fan runs the air conditioning. The [cold-weather design](/mobile-grooming-vans/cold-weather-design/) page covers the heating system in detail.

## How private is a mobile medical clinic van?

A ProVanWorks clinic van is a closed room with one patient inside, and windows are optional. Leave windows out for a fully closed exam room, or add opening windows for daylight and plan how you will cover them during exams.

Privacy also covers patient records, consent and the standards your profession sets for where you see patients. Those rules belong to your profession, not to the van builder. Check with your provincial regulator before you start seeing patients in a van.

## Can a clinic van reach rural and remote communities?

A ProVanWorks clinic van can be built on a diesel, gas or electric van, which lets you match the van to where you work. Diesel and gas vans can run the heater on the same fuel as the engine, which helps on long routes with few chargers. An electric van uses an electric heater, so the battery bank is sized with heat in mind. Vans are shipped from Langley; see [delivery across Canada](/delivery-across-canada/).

## Frequently asked questions

### Does ProVanWorks advise on medical regulations for mobile clinics?

No. ProVanWorks builds the van. College standards, privacy rules for patient records and any facility requirements are the practitioner's responsibility, so check with your provincial regulator.

### What should I include when I ask for a clinic van quote?

Email info@provanworks.com with how you plan to use the van, the equipment you need to power, whether you need water and whether you want a diesel, gas or electric van. We reply with a layout and a price.

### Is a clinic van built on the same platform as your other vans?

Yes. ProVanWorks builds clinic vans on the same insulated, heated platform as our grooming vans and other [custom mobile business vans](/custom-van-builds/).
